Civic exam — Complete course

Our most complete formula: about 46 hours of class — nearly double the fast-track course — to go through each module in depth, at 13 hours per week. Recommended if you are starting from further back or want to be guided from start to finish.

Objective

To get you to pass the civic exam (40 questions, 45 minutes, 80% correct required) with in-depth guidance. The almost-doubled hours allow more time on each topic, far more practice, and work on the spoken side. By the end of the course you will be able to:

• master in depth the knowledge of the five official topics, module by module;
• handle the situational questions with confidence, thanks to a well-practised method and many worked cases;
• run through timed, corrected mock exams until you regularly reach the 80% pass mark;
• choose your centre and register for the exam yourself with an approved body (CCI Paris IDF or France Éducation International).

Programme

The programme follows the official référentiel (decree of 10 October 2025) and covers the five exam modules. With nearly twice the hours of the fast-track course, each module is covered in detail, with more exercises and situational practice.

1. Principles and values of the Republic

• Motto and symbols of the Republic (flag, La Marseillaise, Marianne, 14 July…)
• Laïcité: freedom of conscience, State neutrality, laïcité at school and at work
• Situational questions: equality between women and men, non-discrimination, respect for others

2. Institutions and the political system

• Democracy and the right to vote: the rule of law, separation of powers, elections
• Organisation of the Republic: president, government, Parliament, local authorities
• European institutions: the European Union, symbols, citizenship

3. Rights and duties

• Fundamental rights: freedoms and founding texts (1789, 1958, the 2004 Environmental Charter)
• Obligations and duties: obeying the law, taxes, public order, defence
• Situational questions: discrimination, violence, recourse and useful numbers

4. History, geography and culture

• Main historical periods and figures
• Territories and geography: rivers, regions, overseas France, key landmarks
• French heritage: monuments, artists, gastronomy, the French-speaking world

5. Living in French society

• Settling and residing in France (procedures, access to nationality)
• Access to healthcare
• Working in France
• Parental authority and the education system

Included

• Group class in person (Gare de Lyon, Paris), 13 hours per week (weekday evenings + Saturday morning)
• Intensive practice, timed mock exams with detailed corrections
• Oral practice and in-depth work on the situational questions
• Access to our online quiz (official questions)
• Free guidance to an approved exam centre (CCI or FEI) — you then register for the exam directly

Requirement: French level A2 minimum. Exam fees are not included. From 1 January 2026, passing the civic exam is required for the multi-year residence card, the resident card and naturalisation.

Terms, accessibility and results

Enrolment terms and access times

You can enrol at any time, online via the enrolment form or by contacting us. After we receive your request, our team gets back to you within 2 working days to check the prerequisites and arrange your entry into the next session. New sessions open regularly, in person (Gare de Lyon / Bezons, Paris area).

Assessment methods

A placement test situates your level at the start. Throughout the course, timed and corrected mock exams measure your progress towards the 80% pass mark. A training completion certificate is issued to you at the end.

Accessibility for people with disabilities

Our courses are open to people with disabilities: we do our best to welcome you and adapt the course within the limits of what is possible for us.
